Qarasu –1st Newbury, 17 Aug. Trainer: Roger Charlton

Qarasu (by Le Havre) apparently did not handle the ground when well beaten on penultimate start but relished the softer conditions here and stayed on strongly to land this 2000 metre handicap by four lengths. Unlikely to be risked unless there is give underfoot, he is definitely one to look out for later in the season when ground conditions suit. He looks capable of winning again at this distance but on this evidence may also be able to stay a little further.

Rhythmic Intent – 1st Newbury, 17 Aug. Trainer – Stuart Williams

Rhythmic Intent (by Lope De Vega) finally broke his maiden tag at the seventh attempt but had run some solid races in defeat previously and this was much deserved. He had only had four rivals to beat but did it nicely and High Commissioner in third is a fair yardstick and was bringing decent handicap form into the race. Another clearly suited by cut in the ground he may be on a fair mark off 84 back in handicap company on this preferred surface.

Predictable Tully – 2nd Newbury, 06 Aug. Trainer – Clive Cox

Predictable Tully (by Kodiac) followed a fair fourth on debut with a good second in this two year old fillies maiden. She travelled well and attempted to make all before being run down late on by the fast finishing Wejdan. The winner went on to run with credit next time in a Group 2 and Predictable Tully looks sure to break her maiden tag sooner rather than later

Katniss Everdean – 3rd  Salisbury, 14 Aug. Trainer – Richard Spencer

Only an average maiden but Katniss Everdean (by Camacho) shaped well in third on debut. Always in mid division she was not given a hard time when asked to make ground and was staying on nicely enough at the finish to think that she may be able to pick up a similar type of race in the future.
